Your Next Weekend Escape: A Guide To Charleston 🤍
Charleston has been one of my favorite quick escapes for a long time, it truly is the perfect weekend trip from the NC coast. Whether you’re going for a girls’ trip, a romantic getaway, or just a solo adventure, this city has something to offer everyone. So let me share all my favorites with you!
Hotel Bella Grace – This charming boutique hotel on Calhoun Street is pure Southern elegance. With spacious suites featuring European-style kitchens, complimentary hot breakfast, and a personal concierge, it feels like your own little home in the heart of Charleston. Check out my instagram to see the ins and outs of this hotel!
The Dewberry – If you want to feel like royalty, book a room here. Housed in a stunning mid-century building overlooking Marion Square, The Dewberry is a Virtuoso Award Winner for Best Independent Hotel. And their Urban Oasis spa, well, it’s one that people rave about.
Hotel Bennett – Elegant, European-inspired, and right on King Street with views of Marion Square, Hotel Bennett is a showstopper. Don’t miss their rooftop bar, Fiat Luxe, as well as the “Most Instagrammable Restaurant” in SC, according to Food Network, Camellias champagne bar.
French Quarter Inn – A beloved boutique gem just off Market Street, the French Quarter Inn spoils you from the moment you arrive, with artisanal breakfast, evening wine and cheese, and even a pillow menu. It’s those little touches that make it unforgettable.
Allora Coastal Italian – This one is a must. Allora brings the warmth and flavors of coastal Italy right to downtown Charleston, and the atmosphere is just as dreamy as the food. Perfect for a slow, savored dinner. Check out my instagram to see just what I mean!
Husk – Husk is committed to ingredients sourced entirely from the South, and it shows in every single bite. The building alone makes it worth the visit (but the food is incredible).
Leon’s Fine Poultry & Oysters – Casual, fun, and incredibly delicious. The chargrilled oysters are iconic, and the fried seafood platters are the kind of thing you think about on the drive home.
Vern’s – This intimate spot earned a Michelin star in 2025, and it is every bit deserving. Chef Dano Heinze and his wife Bethany have created innovative seasonal small plates paired with a thoughtfully curated wine list. Reserve ahead!
Wild Common – Another Michelin-starred gem, Wild Common offers one of the most creative tasting menu experiences in the city at a surprisingly approachable price point. Chef Orlando Pagán takes his Puerto Rican roots and ties them together with the Lowcountry flair.
Chubby Fish – For the seafood lovers, Chubby Fish is your spot. This cozy, intimate restaurant is endlessly celebrated for its fresh, seasonal fish dishes.
Rodney Scott’s BBQ – Sometimes you just need incredible BBQ, and Rodney Scott’s is the real deal. James Beard Award-winning pitmaster Rodney Scott has made this a Charleston landmark.
Hampden Clothing – A favorite among fashion lovers, Hampden is the kind of boutique that carries elevated pieces you won’t find just anywhere. It’s always worth a slow browse, and you’ll likely leave with something you’ll wear forever.
George C. Birlant & Co. – If antiques are your love language (like they are mine), you need to spend time at Birlant’s on Lower King Street. Founded in 1922, it’s one of the oldest and largest antique establishments in the entire Southeast, filled with gorgeous 18th and 19th century English furniture, silver, china, and more.
Ensemble Consignment Boutique – Located right on Upper King Street, Ensemble is a fantastic consignment shop for finding quality, stylish pieces at wonderful prices.
The Charleston City Market – A beloved landmark and shopping experience all in one. Browse handmade sweetgrass baskets, local jewelry, artwork, souvenirs, and crafts from local artisans. It’s a must every single visit.
Croghan’s Jewel Box – A true Charleston institution, this family-owned fine jewelry store has been on King Street for over 100 years. From antique estate pieces to custom designs, it’s truly a place that makes everyone feel special.
Walk King Street – Ask anyone, this is what you do in Charleston. Stroll from end to end, pop into shops, grab a coffee, admire the architecture. I swear evertime I’m there I discover something new!
Visit Sullivan’s Island – Just a short drive from downtown, Sullivan’s Island is a laid-back, beautiful barrier island with gorgeous beaches and a charming little main street. It’s the perfect option if you want to step away from the busy city.
Tour the Historic District – Walk Rainbow Row, explore the French Quarter, wander past antebellum homes draped in wisteria. Charleston’s architecture and history are absolutely breathtaking (and if you want extra guidance, take a walking tour).
Waterfront Park & The Pineapple Fountain – A peaceful, beautiful spot along the harbor. Perfect for an evening stroll or a quiet morning with a coffee in hand.
Take a Carriage Tour – One of the most charming ways to see the city. The guides are knowledgeable, the stories are fascinating, and riding through the historic streets by horse-drawn carriage is pure Charleston magic.
Clearly I have found a love and admiration for Charleston. It’s always a pleasure visiting and each time I leave I have new recommendations to give about incredible places I’ve found. If you’re local to the Carolina’s (or even not) I highly suggest making a weekend trip to this Southern City.
